Panda Fest returns to Seattle with heightened security

Panda Fest is back in Seattle this weekend, bringing dozens of food vendors, cultural performances and plenty of panda-themed fun to Seattle Center.

However, this year’s festival comes with increased security following the deadly shooting at the Bite of Seattle in July. The event left three people dead and five others injured.

Organizers have added metal detectors, security wands and bag checks at each entrance. Seattle police officers, private security and festival staff will also be stationed throughout the event.

Weapons, pepper spray, smoking products, illegal drugs, skateboards and roller skates are prohibited.

The added precautions helped vendors and visitors feel safer returning to the Seattle Center grounds.

What to expect at Panda Fest

The three-day festival features more than 60 Asian food vendors serving over 200 street food options.

Visitors can also browse merchandise booths, watch cultural performances and take part in family activities, including a panda bounce house and giant panda photo opportunities.

Panda Fest runs Aug. 28 through Aug. 30 at Fisher Pavilion at Seattle Center.

Festival hours are:

• Friday: 4 to 10 p.m.
• Saturday: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
• Sunday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Tickets are required and can be purchased through the Panda Fest website. General admission costs $14, with Saturday tickets costing an additional $2.
