Seattle pizzeria earns a spot on Food & Wine’s 27 best pizzas in 2026 list

A South Seattle pizzeria known for selling out within minutes has landed on Food & Wine’s list of the 27 best pizzas in America right now.

The magazine included A.K. Pizza on its 2026 list of “27 Best Pizzas in America Right Now,” specifically highlighting the shop’s seasonal Sun Gold and Pesto pie.

“The near impossibility of scoring one of Alex Kim’s pies in the Othello neighborhood of Seattle is offset by how truly mindblowingly delicious they are,” Food & Wine said. “Each of the 60 New York pies made daily at A.K. Pizza has a crunchy crust that opens to an airy center and toppings from a classic vodka pie to specials like the Sun Gold and Pesto.”

Owner Alex Kim joins a list that includes Chris Bianco’s Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix and Anthony Mangieri’s Una Pizza Napoletana in New York City.

For anyone hoping to try the featured pizza, there’s a wait.

Kim told The Seattle Times that the seasonal pie won’t return until summer 2027, when Sun Gold tomatoes are available again.

When did A.K. Pizza open?

The pizzeria recently celebrated its first anniversary.

Since its 2025 opening, Kim, a self-taught baker, has been making each 18-inch pizza himself.

The Seattle Times reported that he produces about 60 pizzas a night and works roughly 80 hours a week, keeping a close watch on the balance of dough, sauce, cheese, and toppings.

He told the newspaper he was excited about the Food & Wine feature, though the workload has left him feeling burned out.

Demand was already high before the magazine’s list appeared.

According to The Seattle Times, as many as 1,000 people try to order when sales open, with available pizzas selling out within 10 minutes.

How can you order a pizza?

A.K. Pizza currently accepts online preorders only. Orders open at noon one day before pickup, and the restaurant warns that they sell out within minutes.

That means anyone planning a visit needs to order ahead. Check the available menu and pickup dates through A.K. Pizza’s website.

The Sun Gold and Pesto pie is off the menu for now, but other pizzas offer a chance to try the small Seattle business that caught Food & Wine’s attention.
